Gravel Driveway Installation

Marion Gravel Driveways & Grading : Gravel Driveway Installation Process

Workflow is the name of the game to us at Marion IL Gravel Driveways & Grading. We believe a successful driveway installation should have a plan and a process to follow to ensure everything goes smoothly. This also improves productivity and helps reduce minor mistakes that can possibly eat up time and add unnecessary effort.

Our process may vary depending on the location and needs of the client. There may be some changes, such as additional steps or removal of steps. But more or less, this is how our installation process usually goes.

Inspection and Evaluation

Constructing a New Gravel Driveway

Our skilled gravel driveway contractors will come to your location and inspect the area. We will evaluate if the location you want your gravel driveway installed is appropriate. There are a couple of factors our team will be watching out for. Some of those are proper drainage systems, ensuring a clear path for machinery to pass through, and more.

Once done and deemed that the area is good for constructing the gravel driveway, we will proceed to measure. We will also check if any permits and other documentation are needed for the project.

Repairing or Regrading an Existing Gravel Driveway

If you have an existing driveway that’s also made from gravel, there’s no need for an evaluation of the location. Since the driveway is already measured and the area is set, our driveway contractors will check if the area still has a good drainage system instead.

Next, we will inspect the damage to your driveway that has accumulated since it was built. Marking the potholes, depressions, or grade changes, our team will note those and ensure those are dealt with during the repairs.

Area Preparation

With inspection, evaluation, marking, and measurements done, it’s time to prep the area. Our team will clear out the space so it won’t interfere with the equipment or machinery. Weeds and shrubs that can block the area will be removed, as well as unsuitable soil.

For existing driveways, our driveway contractor will regrade the existing base. We will also fill in the spots with potholes and remove any bumps in the area.

Spreading and Grading Gravel

Spreading and grading gravel is done whether you’re making a new driveway or repairing an existing one. For new construction, we will layer gravel of different sizes to make a stronger and more durable foundation. For repairing existing driveways, we will relayer and refill everything if necessary, or if the damage is severe, before adding and grading a finer layer on top to finish it off.

Compacting and Finishing

Most of the time, compacting gravel layers is an overlooked aspect when constructing a driveway from gravel. However, we at Marion IL Gravel Driveways & Grading understand the important role of compaction. Using a compactor or heavy-duty vibratory roller ensures that the gravel is properly packed in. By doing so, settling, shifting, and sinking of the gravel can be prevented as time passes.

Once done, you can now enjoy and experience an excellent, functional driveway!

There are plenty of reasons why you should have a gravel driveway constructed. Despite being one of the easiest to install among the other materials, having an expert is still recommended for gravel driveway construction. Proper planning, excellent execution, and capable people are keys to ensuring that you’ll have a durable and reliable gravel driveway that can last for years to come.
